Get pump(kin)ed for Halloween, kids!
Look out, crime!!
1:What is your name and job title?
Parker Simmons, Director (oooooh, I like that!)
2: How did you get a job at Titmouse and how long have you been at Titmouse?Believe it or not, Titmouse was the place I desperately wanted to work at after I finished art school. I sent my portfolio, resume, made calls, did everything I could. When I finally got an interview, I found out that the only reason I got called in was because of the really sloppy, black and white, animatic-style shorts I had posted on youtube. I’ve been here for 5 years!
3: What projects have you worked on at Titmouse?Black Panther, Metalocalypse, Superjail, China, IL (pilot), Black Dynamite (pilot), Motorcity, Turbo and a handful of smaller projects here and there. Right now I’m directing something super exciting, don’t think I can say yet! Here’s a gif of That Frog Kurtis from a sequence I storyboarded and animated!
4: What is your favorite memory from your time at Titmouse?
This is a tough one, because everyday I make new incredible memories with the most amazingly talented, funny people around. I guess the memories of my time here that mean the most to me are the personal ones: any time I’ve helped a friend to get a job, fix a flat tire, exchanged crappy drawings via IM or gone to someone’s wedding.
(Here’s just such a drawing by Grif Kimmins!)
5: What is your favorite Shirt?
Oh man, I have this old black shirt with Bowser (King Koopa) on the front of it. That’s my Boss shirt. So comfy. BEST fit. AND it has the added benefit of exuding ‘tude!
6: What’s your favorite short?
First of all, how dare you. That’s a super personal question. Second of all, it’s not so much a short as it is a slice of life… A slice of John Daker’s life:
7: What kind of personal projects do you do?
You know what I do in my spare time when I’m not making cartoons?…Make more cartoons.Currently, I’m putting together a short starring a certain explosive black cat named Mao Mao!(Gif by Marina Gardner)
9: What would you make if you were filthy rich?
I guess you need to define HOW rich, because if I had all the billions, I’d buy Nintendo and have them make Zelda games only I was allowed to play.
10: Other than your stuff what are you really digging right now?
Oh man, I love video games so much. I love the way they look, the way they sound! Right now I’m playing Etrian Odyssey Untold on 3DS and enjoying making little maps and slapping mutant rats around!
11: What really inspires you?
Video game menus. Some games you can just sit on the menu screen, and sparkles be all sparkling. Music be all in tune with whatever you click. There’s just this focus on the minute details that you might think nobody would care about… But I care about it, and that makes it all the more special, and that drives me to pour that kind of nonsense into what I do. Pointless detail! POINTLESS detail inspires me!
12: Who is an artist you are really excited about today?I’d be lying if I said anyone BUT my fellow Titmice. Marina Gardner is constantly surprising me with her designs, and Grif Kimmins is determined to make more (and better) cartoons than me!(drawing by Alex Kwan, who is also an exciting artist)
I got a write-up on ShirtsnShorts! Everything you’ve ever wanted to know… I wish I was more interesting.
A collaboration amongst friends. My buddy gahyo drew Kitty and passed it off to me, so then I drew Rogue and passed it off to some other dope artists. Owen drew Mystique, parkersimmonsyall drew Jubilee, and barryjkelly drew Storm. After I got the line art I slapped some colors on it. Next piece coming soon, we might drop the illest R&B album of 2014 if we don’t draw anything.
I may have a problem you guys.
I Love You Mao Mao! belongs to Parker Simmons
This made my day! Look at Adorabat, lookin’ all…. “Das my hero.”
Mao be all, “Get me outta here.”
shelbyhughescreations said: I just spent two days searching for you, trying very hard to remember the name of your Mao Mao short. What kind of plans do you have for Mao Mao? I love every last one of your characters and have spent the last hour going through your blog. Also, I hate to pry, but what do you do professionally? Do you work for an animation firm, are you a freelancer? Are there any big projects you've done in the past?
Sounds like you want to know ALL the things. I’m currently a director at Titmouse, Inc. I’ve been with the company for 5 years, having worked my way up from animating!
I’ve worked on Motorcity, Turbo, Metalocalypse, Superjail, and the pilots for China, IL and Black Dynamite!
A Mao Mao short is currently in production. We’ll see what happens once it’s finished!
